Appearing in uniform, as a CAP member in a “Go Fund Me” page, asking for money, can be considered in the context of CAP Fundraising. IMHO, this would be a good way to become a “former member”. There are better ways to solicit personal funds…

Is it legal for a member to use photos of CAP members in uniform to solicit donations for personal use? What is the reg that backs this up? I would appreciate any information on this!
The reply came back that it is Forbidden under CAPR173-4, 14 (e) and CAPM39-1, 1.2.7.4.
Why would Greenwood’s Georgia Wing legal officer Jeff Chiu donate to this in such a public way?
01:05AM on 23 August: An AuxBeacon reader provided the following contribution from one of three possible regulations that could apply to this CAP use of Air Force style uniforms.
Lt. Col. Deb Schmid is in direct violation of CAP Regulation 1-1, Section 3 CAP’s Ethical Standards, Para b Avoid any Conflicts of Interest. No CAP member may use corporate property, information, or their position for improper personal gain or benefit.

“Since August of 2014, Lt. Col. Deborah Schmid has led the Gwinnett Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol Georgia Wing based out at Briscoe Field in Lawrenceville. This week, I was proud to celebrate her leadership as she now passes that command to Captain Adam Davidson. We’re surrounded by remarkable public servants here at home, and I’m grateful to Lt. Col. Schmid for her service.”
Despite her blatant violations, the Georgia Wing promoted and honored her. It goes to show you that when you violate the law and the regs, you get rewarded rather than punished in the CAP.
Lt Col Deb Schmid is also in violation of the following CAPM 39-1 regulations on appropriate wear of the US Air Force uniform in this gofundme solicitation.
3.2.3. Hair (Female). Minimum length is one inch to a maximum bulk of three inches from scalp. Hair may begin to gradually taper from one inch in length to ¼ inch in length approximately three inches from the hairline (no shaved heads, flat tops, etc.). Hair will end above the bottom edge of collar and any side of an invisible line drawn parallel to the ground. When in doubt, assess correct length of hair with the member standing in the position of attention. Except in the physical training uniform (PTU), hair lengths that would be below the bottom edge of the collar will be pinned-up with no loose ends. Hair will not touch either eyebrow, to include an invisible line drawn across eyebrows and parallel to the ground.
3.2.3.3. Hair color, highlights, and frosting will not be faddish and will be natural looking hair color for human beings, similar to the individual’s hair color (e.g. black, brunette, blond, natural red, and grey).
Perhaps Col Richard Greenwood and other CAP officers are in some unknown position in which they must overlook such an infraction?
Who the HockShop cares what Col Frederic Weiss thinks about Col Deb Schmid’s USAF blues on gofundme?!? Weiss is not the national, region or wing commander in Schmid’s chain of command. If the GAWG commander is in favor with Vaz and Melton and Schmid is in favor with Greenwood, then she can do anything she wants and flaunt it right in Weiss’ ledger.
Using her US Air Force style uniform and a false title of Col and not correcting the Gofundme post for over 4 months is a clear violation of
CAPR 173-4, 14(e). Personal Pecuniary Gain.
No CAP member will engage in fund raising activities which results in a pecuniary benefit to that member. This does not prohibit CAP members being reimbursed for legitimate expenses incurred in fund raising activities.
