UPDATE: In 2018, 1Lt Gubala was promoted to CAP Vice Commander of Rhode Island Wing.
Just before heroically confirming the CAP National suspension of a Rhode Island Wing CAP Member, 1st Lt Bob Gubala joined The Rhode Show on Wednesday 14 September 2016 to discuss his involvement with CAP and seek out others who might be in need of a boost to their resumes.
On Tuesday, 15 September, local media reported that CAP Rhode Island Wing Vice Commander Will Stranahan would not return calls seeking comment on the allegations of misconduct made against him. Stranahan is in a political race against incumbent Angelo Padula for West Warwick’s Ward 1 “hotly prized” Town Council seat. Junior CAP officer and RI Wing Director of Recruiting & Retention First Lieutenant Bob Gubala did confirm that the Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters had suspended someone from its ranks due to an in-progress law enforcement investigation.
“I am not at liberty to divulge any personally identifiable information,” Gubala said when solicited for comment.
Former CAP member Robert Cote, no longer held to the organization’s media gag order, offered the fact that “I have through my sources in the Civil Air Patrol all the way up to national, that Stranahan is the one that was suspended.”
