[Editor’s Note: In this story, a new CAP member in the 21st century’s first decade recalls fundamentalist and misogynist “old men” of his squadron having a man crush on Bill O’Reilly and feeling angry against those who exposed just how filthy a human being Bill O’Reilly was found to be.]
I would like to write to you from time to time about events that took place at my squadron when I was a new member. I have since left Civil Air Patrol, but still prefer to remain anonymous because of how some Civil Air Patrol members would lash out in psychotic reprisal against anyone exposing commander corruption in the organization. To convince you of the truthfulness of my aviation background, I am sending you private information from Monsignor Edward Pace Catholic High School and Opa-Locka Airport.
As a new member working to progress through the official Civil Air Patrol ratings and courses, I recalled frequent “grumpy old man” side discussions designed to send messages to cadets and new seniors regarding acceptable politics for membership. Their talking points would come from the likes of the Neil Boortz radio show, Bill O’Reilly’s The Factor and Rush Limbaugh. There were others. Topics included things like:
• The Media
• Pinhead Liberal college students
• Nixon was Right! US President is above the law because he makes the law
• Socialists are Nazis
• The War on Christmas
In mid October 2012 one of the old fan-boy members of Bill O’Reilly had just bought his book Killing Kennedy. I had already read it, found a few errors and some glaring omissions and decided that it would be best not to comment. I watched as a younger and more outspoken member began to address Bill O’Reilly’s personal failings with the old man by probing him.
Was he aware that O’Reilly and/or FOX paid a $9M settlement to O’Reilly Factor employee/producer Andrea Mackris who endured O’Reilly’s phone calls advising her to use a vibrator and telling her all about his sexual fantasies involving her and a falafel/loofah?
Was he aware that O’Reilly outed his freak show of a boss Roger Ailes by telling Mackris that
“Roger Ailes… will go after you… Ailes operates behind the scenes, strategizes, and makes things happen so that one day BAM! The person gets what’s coming to them but never sees it coming.”
Andrea Mackris had clearly recorded O’Reilly’s statements and this became something that Civil Air Patrol was very concerned about: cadets and new seniors recording the behavior of corrupt commanders so that whistleblower reprisals would be impossible.
I was no longer with that unit in May 2015 when court transcripts from Bill O’Reilly’s custody trial with ex-wife Maureen McPhilmy brought his violent domestic behavior to public light.
Bill O’Reilly’s daughter had told a forensic examiner that she witnessed O’Reilly choking her mother McPhilmy and dragging her down the stairs of their home by her neck, not knowing that their daughter Madeline was able to see.
O’Reilly denied the accusation as “100% false” but he had been caught lying in the past and in February 2016, O’Reilly lost a bid for custody of both his daughter Madeline and his son Spencer.
FOX News CE Roger Ailes resigned his position in disgrace in July 2016 following allegations that he had engaged in sexual harassment. Ailes served as a consultant for Republican presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush, and for the Donald Trump campaign.
Your younger members may not recognize that Roger Ailes is famous for his reaction to the American public turning against Richard Nixon for his crimes and proposed “A Plan for Putting the GOP on TV News” as a way to dumb-down the American public with Hannity-like pro-GOP cheerleading.
In October 2017, O’Reilly’s literary agency, WME, announced that they would no longer represent him for future deals. His talent agency, UTA, did not renew his contract.
My point with all this is that:
Civil Air Patrol members are largely ignorant pretenders seeking to groom young people through an organization that allows intimidation by rank and numbers to lead those young people into believing falsehoods for the benefit of some very faulty people.
